In the past half hour the Chinese space
authority has held a news conference in which they announced a stunning revelation.
Three years ago what was thought to be a routine, if slightly large load, was
sent towards the Chinese space station. It was going to, or so it was thought,
add a new couple of modules to the space station. The craft seemed to
accidentally miss the station and begin to carry on into deep space. It’s crew
were ordered to return, leaving the module out there for later retrieval.
Whilst a smaller module of the craft was
released and seen to return to earth with what was thought to be its crew. This
was all thought to be okay. The module passed out of monitoring towards the
moon, where it is thought to have crashed. It has been revealed that instead,
it slingshotted around the moon towards mars. This manoeuvre is performed to
kick start a space mission when it steals some of the potential gravitational
energy and transmutes it into kinetic energy. It has since then run on an
electrical ion drive, making slow progress, until nearing Phobos, one of the
two moons of Mars. Here they landed inside the giant impact crater which the
moon possesses, and set up a base. They then have launched a capsule towards
the red planet which will land in three days.
